Mami Arrey, the fighter who battled a lot of adversity as a single mom raising her kids and making sure they all stood out to be better individuals than she could ever imagine, finally lost her battle with multiple myeloma in Chicago on the 24th of October.
An ex Sakerette and a retired nurse, Mami worked as a former director of Cycle B1 nursing school in Mile One Limbe, where she spent her career training students and taking care of patients in the most adverse conditions in Cameroon, Africa. Her nursing career climaxed with an appointment as Director of Nurses Council in Cameroon.
Mami was coming to visit her daughter residing in the US. Unfortunately, upon arrival in Chicago O'hare International Airport, she was unresponsive and taken to the emergency. She later was admitted at Presence Ressurection Medical Center where she had been receiving treatement for multiple myeloma. She felt better and was sent to Presence Saints Benedict Nursing Home for rehab to prepare her to go home and be with her daughter. On monday October 24th at 5am, she was found unresponsive in her wheelchair at the nursing home and was rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed with pneumonia from which she did not survive.
We want to fullfill Mami's wish of having her rest in the place she had always called home, the country where she grew up and did most of her work.
We appreciate all the support and may God grant Mami the eternal rest she so truely deserves!!
