Luke is a Kansas City native who's traveled the world as an independent lighting designer & technician. He was also born with only one kidney - which hasn't been a problem until 4 years ago when he suddenly went into kidney failure.

With the help of his community & the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, 2026 will be the year that Luke gets on the donor list and receives a new kidney!

This fundraiser is to encourage people to join the donor list and to help Luke cover upcoming bills not covered by Medicare insurance, such as:

- gas, food, and lodging in driving back and forth from his home base in Las Vegas to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix for all appointments pre-operation

- supplementary health insurance plans specific to his needs

- relocating to Phoenix for 3-4 months so he can be closer to the clinic, post operation in case of complications or organ rejection (proximity to the hospital is required to be on the donor list)

- medications not covered by insurance

- pet care for his dog & cat while he is unable to care for them himself

I am starting with a goal of raising $2,400, which does not meet his financial needs. If we surpass our original goal, it will increase.

His Current Quality of Life

Initially, his dialysis treatments were a few hours per day but, eventually, doctors increased his treatments to 12 hours per day. 12 hours of dialysis is not only time consuming, but physically exhausting. Luke has since been on disability as a result of being solely responsible for his own medical care and daily needs.

With a living donor THIS YEAR, Luke's chances of keeping a few years of a good quality of life significantly increases and he can stop 12-hour dialysis treatments immediately post op.

About the Donor List

Luke's blood type is O-

If you are generous enough to volunteer your name for the donor list, even if you don't match with Luke, your association with him (almost like a referral that gives him credit) gives Luke a pass to the front of the donor line.

Example: One person without type O- blood signs up to donate a kidney and mentions that Luke inspired them to join the list. Then, Luke's name gets sent to the front of the line because he has helped someone on the donor list find their donor. Win-win!!

About Me:

I met Luke working on Carnival Cruise Lines together in 2015. As two Midwestern kids lost at sea together, we became fast friends (damn is he funny!!). I'm starting this gofundme because I love Luke and want his quality of life to improve so that he can enjoy life as he knew it before he got sick.
