Lucas Stomps Out Cancer

Nancy, Bill, Lucas, and Zachary need our help.

On Thursday, June 15, 2023 Nancy and Bill got the news that is every parents worst fear and worst nightmare, their sweet Lucas has cancer. Thursday afternoon Lucas was playing at the park on the swings. Another boy wanted a turn so Lucas happily got off. As he walked away, he tripped and fell. It was a normal, no big deal fall that all kids experience....except it put Lucas into a lot of pain. Nancy called the pediatrician and they were brought in to be seen that same afternoon. The pediatrician immediately sent them to Virtua Voorhees. Virtua Voorhees ran some tests and saw spots on his kidneys....it was Wilms Tumor and it was in both kidneys. Lucas was transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia that night where treatment plans were made for chemo so they could preserve his kidneys but that quickly changed when an ultrasound showed the tumor in one of his kidneys was bleeding. On Monay, June 19, Lucas had surgery to remove one of his kidneys and he is now in recovery from that surgery.

The doctors are optimistic but the path of treatment is long and keeps shifting. Lucas will still need to go through chemo to remove the cancer from his other kidney.

We all wish there was something we could do to take this away from the Beards. They're an amazing, loving, kind family and Lucas even has a new baby brother named Zachary who is just now 10 weeks old. Lucas is SO PROUD to be a big brother and calls Zachary "my baby." When Lucas first saw Zachary after being admitted to the hospital he perked up at seeing "his baby" and gave him a huge kiss on the forehead with the biggest smile I've ever seen.

Lucas and his family are in really good hands at the best hospital possible for them. We can't be the ones to fix Lucas, but we can be there for the Beard Family to help them cover medical bills, expenses such as parking and gas, and more as we rally around Lucas and help him through this one step at a time.

No matter what, prayers, positive thoughts, warm wishes are deeply and wholly appreciated. Every little bit helps. Thank you all so much.
