Liver for Lauve
Donation protected
I would like to introduce you to Gail (Broussard) Lauve. She is 68 years old, a grandmother of 18 and a great grandmother of 22. She and her husband, Leonard Lauve, live in Fannett and are active within the Labelle Baptist Church. They flooded not only in Harvey, but also with Imelda. They recently had to tear their house down in order to purchase a mobile home so that they can make sure they don't flood again. She was diagnosed with liver disease and placed on the liver transplant list in 2016. Since her health is greatly deteriorating and no donor has come available, she has been approved for a "partial liver transplant" which her daughter has unselfishly agreed donate. The procedure will take place in Dallas and will require Gail to stay close to the hospital/clinic where she will be receiving therapy, rehab and health care for three months. The stay alone is going to cost approximately $5,000 (which is at a discounted price for them). In addition, a large portion of the funds will go to purchase the on going medication that will be necessary to take after the transplant is completed. Although Gail is on Medicare, the prescriptions will cost approximately $9,000, one prescription is $2,000 per dose. Some of this medication she will be on for the rest of her life.
