Little Liberty's Big Trip to NBAC

Tax deductible

The National Building Arts Center, the nation's most comprehensive museum of the built environment, is ready to bring the Statue of Liberty to its campus in St. Louis -- more specifically, a famous 1902 replica from New York City being gifted by the Brooklyn Museum. Her name is Little Liberty.

We have funds raised and ready for getting the move started, but we need your help to make it a success. And we have a challenge: A donor is willing to write a $25,000 check for the project if we can match it dollar for dollar.

With your contributions, we will be able to do more than just move the statue to the Center. We will be able to finish building its base, and set the statue aloft. We will be able to fully restore the statue, and host a major dedication event. And we will be able to enhance our ability to curate Little Liberty through research and programs. Your contributions will allow us to display the statue at the front of our museum, where anyone in the world can take a look.

We hope to have all of this done by the end of this summer, and look forward to seeing you when we unveil Little Liberty as she faces the famous Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

Little Liberty was bestowed upon New York City by immigrant William Flattau, who placed it on top of his Liberty Warehouse. It was a noted attraction in its own right, even being mistaken for the original. Today it opens discussions on the meaning of liberty and the idea of monuments and what they signify. We think Little Liberty will allow our museum to dig more deeply into the long past of the United States, while providing a big reason to come visit.

DONOR RECOGNITION

All donors who contribute $100 or more will be recognized in the printed program for the dedication event. All donors will be recognized on our website.

All donors who contribute $5,000 or more will have their names placed on a dedication plaque set on the Little Liberty base.

Of course, any amount is welcome. Let's bring Little Liberty to her new home in the heart of the country!
