Lisa Butler’s family

Doação protegida
Our precious friend, Lisa Butler passed away suddenly and tragically on February 11th, 2019, at the young age of 47. She is leaving behind the true love of her life  & husband of 27 years- Ken Butler and their two beloved daughters, Jessica and Allison- who both became first time moms just this last Christmas time. Both grand babies, Isabella and Colton, were pure joy and blessings to Lisa for the tragically short time she got to spend with them. Lisa's mom, Patty Pryor, who also resided with Ken and Lisa, and Lisa’s devoted brother LD Cook, are also left to experience the devastating loss of a daughter and sister.

Lisa suffered a major medical emergency while on a cruise excursion in the Dominican Republic. As of today, Ken and the family have been unable to bring Lisa home to the US because of the slow government process in the DR that will eventually allow for her return home. This process typically takes 3 weeks.

In the mean time, Ken, his girls, Lisa’s mother, and Lisa’s family are all struggling with the reality that she will not be returning to the dream home in Spotsylvania, VA that Lisa and Ken and family had just moved into about 2 months ago.

The list of people’s lives that Lisa has positively and kindly affected is a long one......seeing her smiling face open the door of a mobile clinic along route 1, after she had already started her new career as a Nurse Practitioner at Sentara,  did not surprise me. She wanted to make sure those who couldn’t afford health insurance or medical care, would get a caring reception, good medical care and would know that someone cared about their well being.

Helping to serve breakfast at church and again, offering  a smile and a warmness that only a kind heart can provide was what Lisa wanted to do with the little, precious time she made sure to carve out of her busy life.

Lisa didn’t forget to reach out to her long time friends and had many of them. Friends that she had real life long relationships with. She always went out of her way to feed those relationships with time and love. Lisa was one of those people that found so much joy in, and truly desired to be there for you if you needed a helping hand- no matter how far away you were and no matter if you would ever get a chance to return the favor.

Lisa had a large extended family at Sentara Hospital in Woodbridge and Lakeridge, VA  as well. She had spent over a decade nursing at "Potomac Hospital"  honing her skills and knowledge. When she sustained a shoulder injury in 2010, it  pushed her to pursue her Nurse Practioner which she had just completed in 2017. She was eager to return to her passion which she did with vigor. She was a well respected provider and again, became one of those rare, special people that you want your family to get when they come to the hospital. She spoke kindly and softly, and her caring face communicated to patients  that they could trust her and that she would treat them like they were a member of her own family.

Our giving goal here is simple: to let Lisa’s family know that we all saw Lisa for the incredibly special light that she was in this world AND to say one final “Thank you” to Lisa, by helping the ones she loved most in this world- her precious family- handle some of the financial burdens this tragedy has brought.
