Legal Fees for Gender Affirming Care

The minor in question has been living as a trans girl since the age of 6. She is now almost 14 years old. The time has come for gender-affirming care including hormone blockers that pause puberty to prevent irreversible testosterone-based secondary sex characteristics from developing including a deepening voice, a masculine-shaped face, an Adam’s apple, etc. Her doctor and therapist both agreed that gender-affirming care is necessary for her continued emotional wellness and safety.

Unfortunately, the family has not been able to agree on gender-affirming care and is pursuing legal support for the minor. The good news is that an emergency order has been granted by the judge allowing the minor to start with the blockers. We expect that the ruling will be that the minor will be able to continue on blockers as it is the standard of care agreed upon by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The parent has reached a financial bottom as the lawyer fees stack up. $7,000 is the initial amount that the minor’s parent has paid in legal fees to get the temporary emergency order granted. As this is only a temporary order there are still ongoing legal fees accruing. Thank you to the community for your support and advocacy!
