Mid-October last year, my mum Deborah went to hospital with back-pain. She was sent home after a needle and a Pandol, and that night had a fall which sent her straight back to hospital. After days of testing and scans, they found she had Leiomyosarcoma in her womb - a rare cancer which spreads aggressive tumours throughout the body. Shortly after, they found tumours in her spine and skull.
In October, they said we had six more months with our Mum. Deborah has four kids and two grandkids who are trying to make the time she has left full of love.
I've decided to shave my head to raise money so we can make final memories with her. We would love to take her on a holiday and give mum a one in a life time experience.
As you may or, may not know … Hair holds emotional weight and memories, so much so that cutting it off can be a form of letting go of those memories that hold trauma, and a tool of empowerment. I believe sharing this journey with my mum is special, and letting her know I’m there every step of the way.
