Kristin Hall Christensen is a 36-year old mother of two from Lincoln, Nebraska. She discovered in June 2019 that she is suffering from End Stage Liver Disease (acute cirrhosis) meaning her liver no longer functions properly. The only cure for Kristin is a liver transplant. The exact cause of Kristin’s liver disease is unknown, but doctors have ruled out that it could be chemical-related. While usually the most vibrant and energetic woman in the room, this disease is taking its toll. Kristin has been suffering from pain and extreme fatigue while waiting for the next step.
Kristin is a 4th grade teacher at Randolph Elementary School in Lincoln along with being an Independent Director for Thirty-One gifts. Kristin’s husband, Bump, is a physical education teacher in Lincoln. They have two daughters - Leah will be starting the 8th grade this fall and Aubrey 5th grade. Kristin’s parents are Ted & Sherri Hall and her in-laws are Al & Terry Christensen.
Kristin is on the national donor registry for a cadaver donor while also waiting for results from a couple ‘angels’ who are in the process of being tested to see if they can be live donors. She currently travels two-hours round trip from her home to the University of Omaha Medical Center up to three times a week, which will be her norm until surgery can get scheduled. After surgery, she must stay in Omaha near the medical facility for 1 1/2-2 months. During this time Kristin will be required to have a family member or friend stay with her. She will also have frequent medical appointments and be required to take several medications for at least the first two years following the transplant.
The financial burden brought on by this type of disease is already being experienced by Kristin and her family as medical bills have started to mount and will continue to grow. Funds raised here will be used to help pay the many added medical expenses and medications not covered by insurance, along with the housing cost for Kristin and her care-givers following surgery. In addition to the mounting bills, the Christensen family will also experience a decrease in income due to Kristin’s absence from work.
Kristin is courageously sharing her journey, the highs and lows, through a Facebook Closed Group - “What’s Up with Kristin?! Info and Updates.” If you are interested in following her progress, request to join.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated by Kristin, her family, and all those who lover her.
