Kokomo (Short Film)

Hi! My name is Elijah Gordon (He/Him/His). I am a senior at The New School and this summer I am directing, producing, and writing a new short film called Kokomo!
Kokomo follows Benny, an aspiring rapper who wants to impress his girlfriend by making a gangster rap song, the problem at hand is that he's not a gangster nor a good rapper so he decides to get a ghostwriter. This twenty-minute comedy pokes fun of hip hop/youth culture, while displaying themes of young insecure people trying to find security.
Kokomo is currently in Pre-Production. With your help, in one week this project/dream will be fully funded, and Kokomo can be submitted to film festivals, be a proof of concept for a television pilot, and be released for all of you to see!
As a storyteller who's POC I am passionate about telling grounded and real stories about the human experience. In particular, I love writing stories of people going through day-to-day life and not suffering. I feel the entertainment industry/culture is obsessed with visualizing racial trauma with all-minority casts when that shouldn't be the only norm. Yes, a lot of those stories are pivotal, but why can't there be a show/movie in the United States like Seinfeld or Horrible Bosses that happens to have a black, Hispanic, or Asian cast?
