Trent Brookshire Service

I have sat at the hospital every night this week knowing what inevitably was going to happen. I have had conversations with Family and Friends, hanging onto every word, remembering every story they told me in the hopes that I could find the right words that would move people to help us lay Trent to rest. I also wanted to make sure I honor Trent for the person he was and not what ultimately took his life. Trent was a fierce man. He loved with his whole heart and would do anything for you. I know we say that about a lot of people but Trent honestly would give you everything he had even when all he had was hugs. He had a presence about him that drew you to him. He was joyful. He was happy. He was loving. He was determined. He was funny. Unfortunately, Trent was also addicted to heroin. I could tell you how this demon steals our loved ones from us, ruins lives and how addicting it is. I could tell you how hard it is to overcome. You know that already so I am choosing not to dwell on that. Instead, I want to focus on WHO we lost. We lost a son, a father to 2 amazing children - Matthew 15 and Alexis 14, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew and a friend. Trent was in recovery and drug free for almost 8 months. In those 8 months he gave his life to God. He was on the right track. He was helping and leading other addicts in the hopes that he could help them stay sober and that they could also help him stay sober. Last week he relapsed. This time it was for good. I like to think that God saw his struggle and decided to bring him home. If you believe in God then you have to believe in the Devil. I think Trent had a war raging in his soul and God saw it. I think God called him home while he still believed. I am comforted knowing that Trent is for sure in Heaven and no longer battling this demon.
Trent did not have any insurance. His beautiful, incredible sweet baby sister, Megan, is carrying this burden on her own now. She is a 25 year old mother of 3 little girls and a wife to James. James is the sole provider for their family. I don't know about you, but at 25 we really don't have plans or the means to deal with something like this. She is so stressed about what to do. A funeral costs about 18k. She has decided to have Trent cremated, which was his wishes anyway, and to have a small service for him. The cost is $5000. I am asking that you please help me help her. Any amount will go a long way. This small service will give his children, family and friends an opportunity to say goodbye. A chance to be with each other for a few hours, share memories and grieve together.
If you would rather make donations directly to the funeral home he is at West Cobb Crematory. 2480 Macland Rd, Marietta, GA 30064. [phone redacted]. Ask for Mr. David Roach.
Lastly, I would like to thank Trents brothers at Celebrate Recovery. Because of you and your love, Trent is with the Lord. I stand in prayer with you that ALL addicts find recovery in 2016.
I will make the first donation. Thank you all and God bless you! We will keep everyone posted on the arrangements.
