Keep Ink Alive

My name is Leah and I am the owner and operator of Ink Sweets, a Twin Cities based cake design business. I started decorating cakes when I was just 14 years old and it has been my unwavering passion and joy since then. I was fortunate enough to start this business years ago with big hopes and dreams.

For years I have been able to share my love of food, art, and cake through my work with beautiful couples. I have put my heart and soul into this business, which has included needing to go into debt in order to fulfill orders, stay true to my brand, and stay afloat. The contrast between the praise for my work and the quiet agony of trying to stay open has come to a breaking point for me.

I couldn’t receive a business loan and instead relied on a credit card to start my business years ago. That debt, in combination with the chaos of the pandemic closures, skyrocketing prices of butter and eggs, and increased interest rates I sadly have come to a place where I have to seriously consider closing this business down before I get any deeper than I am. I love this job and this community so much and all I want to do is to be able to keep doing what I love and sharing it with y’all.

The funds raised here are going to help with the increased cost of supplies as well as rent, gas, insurance, and all the other boring stuff it takes to keep a business afloat. With those expenses covered even for a few months I would be able to focus on orders that will help me start to crawl out of the hole I currently find myself in.

For anyone who can spare a few dollars your support would mean the absolute world to me. And, if you’re thinking, “This is tacky and she should handle her s#!$” I know. I know. I KNOW. I feel this deep in my bones. Asking for help is my least favorite thing to do in the entire world and makes me want to crawl into a dark hole. But, when it comes down to this or closing my business you can be damn sure I’m going to try everything I absolutely can before this dream dies.
