Kats Fight

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Bridget Voght, I am the youngest of Kat's four children. My mother was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and has a long journey ahead of her. Don’t be fooled she is ready to fight and beat this cancer, but she needs our help. Throughout the years my mother has faced many medical challenges and has always managed to pull through. From having a defibrillator placed at a very young age, to having most of her large intestine removed, among other major health scares we’ve always held true that it could be worse. While that is still the case this feels like rock bottom while we’re in it and going through the motions.

In the month following my mom’s weeklong stay in Boston where she received her diagnosis, she and my father have made multiple weekly trips back to Boston, multiple trips to CT and MA doctors, and the stress of balancing work and caregiving is taking a toll on my dad. Watching your parents struggle is something that you can’t prepare yourself for. From trying to fit in 40 hours of work and be available to bring my mom to her appointments I worry that my dad is going to burn out very quickly. They say that the average family is just one major illness or injury away from financial ruin.

My parents would never ask for help, they’re the helpers. Always finding some way or someone to give back to. My mom is always first in line when it comes to donating time, services, or goods, she’s stayed up into the early morning baking cookies for church fundraisers, organized free suppers for the community, crocheted blankets for nearly every baby she knows and quite a few she doesn’t, she donates to her friends’ fundraisers, and is always there when you need someone. Her selflessness and kindheartedness have touched more in the community than I can fathom. I’ve been blown away by the response to this fundraiser, but when I was on the phone with my dad I concluded that when you always do the right thing, you’re always a good friend, and you raise your family to do the same, people show up for you when you need it.

I couldn’t be prouder of who my parents are, and I hope that if you’re able to reach out and donate, you do. It will be put to the best use to ensure that on top of this awful hand of cards they’ve been dealt they don’t have to worry about clocking in and out, or how they’re going to pay for parking or gasoline to get to Boston. If you were able to make sense of the original bio I applaud you, it was written through very wet eyes early in the morning. This has been nothing short of a nightmare roller coaster for our family but together and with your help I know my parents will come out stronger than ever. My mom’s a fighter and she looks good in pink! Leave an encouraging note or fond memory with my mom in the comment with your donation if you feel compelled, she’ll appreciate it in these coming days and weeks.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
