Celebrating the Life of My Beautiful Friend, Katie

My name is Holly, and I am writing this with a broken heart. In January this year, my dear friend Katie tragically took her own life. She left behind a young son who will now grow up without his mum, a devastated sister, mother, and brother-in-law, as well as a large and loving family and countless friends who are struggling to come to terms with this unbearable loss.

Katie was a beautiful, kind, and compassionate soul who had the biggest heart. She brought so much love and laughter into the lives of those around her, but like so many, she battled silently with her mental health. Sadly, those struggles became too much for her to bear. Her passing has left an unfillable void in the lives of so many, and the pain of losing her in this way is indescribable.

We want to honour Katie’s life in the way she deserves, with a beautiful Celebration of Life where all those who loved her can come together to remember her, share memories, and support one another through this unimaginable grief. To make this possible, I am hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of the event, which will be around £1,600 for the 100+ people who wish to attend.

Losing Katie has reinforced just how important it is to talk openly about mental health. Too many people are suffering in silence, believing they have to carry their pain alone. If Katie’s story can do anything, I hope it can encourage others to reach out, to know they are not alone, and to remind us all to check in on those we love, even when they seem fine.

If you are able to contribute anything, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. Every bit will help us give Katie the send-off she deserves, to bring her family and friends together in love and remembrance, and to raise awareness of the devastating impact of mental health struggles.
