Keep Karen and Barb safe and off the street

Hi, my name is Joni and I'm fundraising for our neighbors who were evicted from their home just hours before the gigantic March 13 snowstorm.

Karen and Barb are a senior couple who are partially disabled with multiple health issues. They were turned out of their home with no where to go, and their belongings were piled higgeldy-piggeldy on the street. Heavy rain followed by nearly 2 feet of snow means that they lost most of their possessions, in addition to losing their home. Neighbors rallied to find them temporary shelter in a nearby hotel, and worked through the storm to salvage what possessions we could.

Karen and Barb have lined up an apartment in Boulder's affordable housing network which should be available on April 30. We are fundraising to keep these women safely housed until they can move into the apartment.

We have exhausted the network of Boulder's community services without finding any transitional help. Emergency Family Assistance (EFFA) won't help because there are no children involved. Jewish Family Services has no funds. Coordinated Entry determined that the shelter is unworkable due to their medical issues, but has offered nothing to secure any other kind of transitional shelter. The Age Well program advised that these women are likely not available for financial assistance because they are no longer permanent Boulder residents - after owning a home in our community for more than 20 years, and with a new Boulder address only a month away.

Funds will be used to keep Karen and Barb sheltered in the neighborhood hotel for the next 30+ days. The hotel manager has been very supportive, giving us the lowest rate possible. Any funds collected beyond hotel costs will be used to help pay move-in expenses.
