My brother, Kyle Schmidt, was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor a little over a month ago.  The tumor affects his hearing, balance, and facial muscles.  He will undergo surgery at the end of August to remove the tumor.  The tumor is situated in such a location where not only hearing is an issue, but the surgery could have adverse effects on the nerves in his face.  In order to insure the facial nerves and muscles are not damaged, the hearing in Kyle’s left ear will have to be sacrificed.

The recovery time for this surgery is going to be extensive.  He will initially be in ICU and then out of work for a minimum of 6 weeks, followed by physical therapy for his balance.  There will be no income during this period but bills will continue to come due.  Kyle also supports his teenage daughter to whom he is a very loving Dad.
