Gwen's Cancer Journey
Doação protegida
On August 25, 2023, Gwendolyn Granston was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. It's been a heartbreaking experience for her and our entire family. She has been a single mother for 28 years to two lovely daughters, and a brand-new grandmother to one-month old Benjamin. She is the family breadwinner, a tower of love, warmth, and strength, and a woman who is always willing to give, even during her own hardships.

It is now our turn to give back, just as she has given so much of her life to others! She did her best with what she had, coming from a life of poverty, and struggling to make ends meet, to provide for her family and even those around her!

We are deeply saddened by this diagnosis, which threatens to extinguish her light that has illuminated many lives, but we are confident that with our assistance, she will triumph in her battle against cancer!
Her official diagnosis is sigmoid colon cancer with metastatic disease to the liver. This was discovered when she went to the hospital on August 20, 2023, with a fever and cough. After admission, the doctors discovered masses on her liver, which ultimately came from her colon. She was rushed into emergency surgery on August 25, 2023, to do a laparoscopic hand-assisted sigmoid colectomy with anastomosis. Fortunately, it was successful; however, two weeks later, she was readmitted to the hospital and diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs and arms, resulting in her needing lifelong treatment for the blood clots.
Prior, she suffered from hypertension and type 2 diabetes, but now her diagnosis has left her unable to work, anemic, bedridden, in and out of the hospital, and suffering from numerous medical complications.

Gwen’s current state is dire and requires our help now more than ever! She is uninsured and is facing an ever-growing mountain of hospital bills. She will need chemotherapy treatment, expensive, life-saving medications, and many trips to the cancer center to give her a fighting chance.
Whatever you can contribute to her treatment and recovery will be greatly appreciated, as the Jamaican proverb goes, "every mickle mek a muckle!" This means that when we all work together, no matter how small the gesture, we can make a difference! We can help save the life of Gwen, a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who loved everyone with everything she had.
Gwen’s road to recovery will be a long, difficult path, but we appreciate everyone who read and sympathized with her story, and we ask you to join us on her journey to a cancer-free life!

Updates will be provided on a need-to-know basis to those who donate and support her journey.
