Justin's transplant journey

Hi, my name is Julie Rucker. My husband Justin has been dealing with kidney failure for the last 19 years of his life and heart failure for the last 6 years. He's spent those years on kidney dialysis and once his heart was failing, he's also had a LVAD since 2017. He's worked hard to get on the transplant list where he is waiting for both a kidney and a heart. He's been waiting on this list a little over 2 years. For the last 3 years, he's battled an infection involving the LVAD and today the decision was made for Justin to be admitted to Piedmont Hospital where they will continue to provide medications for the infection and this also moves him up to a status 2 on the transplant list. The doctors have said he will remain in the hospital until they find an organ match. This part is great, but there is no way to know how long that will take. It could be days, weeks, or even months. Once the transplant happens, he will have to remain close to the hospital for a few more months. I will continue to work until he transplants which means I will be traveling back and forth as often as possible and will stay in Atlanta when I'm able and then we will have to stay for several weeks afterward. This of course will become quite expensive. I know times are tough for everyone but I am asking if you're able to help financially, please do. If you can't, please share our story to your friends. More than that please keep Justin, myself, the hospital staff, and more importantly the families that choose to donate their loved ones organs so that others can have a chance at life again.
