Justice for Dre Hollingsworth and Her Twins

On Wednesday evening, April 7, 2021 Dre Hollingsworth and her twin daughters, were the victims of police violence.
Dre is a Black Deaf woman living in Las Vegas with her twin girls, pursuing her dreams of playing football. She was pulled over with her twins in the car, by North Las Vegas Police Officer Michael Rose, as she approached her home. Within a few minutes, EIGHT other police vehicles arrived on the scene. Nervous and thinking of her and her children's safety, Dre went live on Facebook in an effort to share her precarious situation with the community. Through the audio and visual, we clearly see officers from the North Las Vegas PD blatantly violating her basic rights. She was harassed, handcuffed and detained, along with her girls, on the dark street, until finally she was able to show her ID with the address of her nearby home. At that point, the officers finally released her, with no charges. Dre was denied her human rights, not provided an interpreter which denied her access to basic communication, and handcuffed behind her back while Officer Rose forced their traumatized 11 year old children to interpret the sudden interrogation. The two officers present did not respond to the children's emotional needs during a traumatic incident, instead coercing them into interpreting for their mother while they were clearly crying, confused, and afraid. The cops consistently ignored the valid questions of the two KODAs/CODA (kids/children of Deaf adults) and their mother when they were trying to understand what was happening to them. The horrible events that occurred are in direct violation of the American with Disabilities Act. For far too long, Black Deaf individuals have suffered abuse and lack of communication access at the hands of untrained officers. We stand in unity with the Deaf community in demanding these wrongs be rectified. Thankfully, Dre and their family are safe. Please join us in sending thoughts, prayers and healing energy to all those affected by donating to help cover Dre's legal fees, counseling for her babies, funds to cover basic expenses like food and rent. We as a community need to support Dre as they pursue justice for the family and any costs associated to this traumatic and absolutely unnecessary event.
