June is Pride Month, donate to the Lacombe Pride Society

Donation protected
Ever wondered why June is Pride Month? On June 28, 1969, the NYPD raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, leading to the Stonewall riots. For six days patrons and other community members fought to protect one of the few safe spaces for LGBTQ+ persons. One year after Stonewall, thousands marched from the Stonewall Inn to Central Park in the first gay pride parade in the US. We celebrate Pride Month every June in honor of Stonewall and celebrate the progress for rights and freedoms for all 2SLGBTQ+ people.

The Lacombe Pride Society needs your help and sponsorship to continue bringing support to the 2SLGBTQ+ community and spread awareness and educate the community at large.

In the last year, the Lacombe Pride Society has been busy:
  • Pride Society open house
  • Lacombe Days parade
  • Pride Weekend 2023: Family picnic, dog adoption, fun with the Red Deer Native Friendship Society and Family Resource Network; Pups, Pride, and Pints night at Blindman Brewing, Pride in the Park with queer maker market, bbq, and entertainment; Paint the Town GAY drag show
  • Bi-weekly Rainbow Underground meetings for youth, powered by the Echo Foundation
  • Monthly meetings for caregivers
  • Monthly adult game nights
  • Family bingo night
  • Family movie night

Behind the scenes we're pushing back against harmful rhetoric and legislation and fighting for the freedom and liberation of our community. As a non-profit organization, we rely on your donations to provide community events and keep our operations running.

About the Lacombe Pride Society

Queer Centric: Lacombe Pride society is first and foremost for the queer community, by the queer community. Our programming and events seek to foster a vibrant, inclusive community where the diverse identities and experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals are celebrated, affirmed, and prioritized, promoting empowerment, visibility, and solidarity.

Safety: We desire to make people feel safe to be celebrated for who they are, fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and support, where everyone's boundaries and dignity are honoured, and proactive measures are taken to prevent and address any instances of harm or discomfort.

Community Oriented: We love Lacombe and want to see it thrive. From local volunteering, collaborating and partnering with like minded groups and individuals, promoting agencies that have different missions in growing and strengthening Lacombe & surrounding area, and promoting inclusivity of all.

Transparency: In all that we do, we seek to operate with a posture of honesty, integrity, and accountability. Seeking to establish and maintain best practices, while commiting to learn from our shortcomings and mistakes.

Respect: Acknowledging the inherent worth, dignity, and rights of individuals, as well as their beliefs, identities, and boundaries. We live this out by treating others with kindness and empathy, actively listening to their perspectives, stories, and experiences, while refraining from actions or speech that could cause harm or offense.
