Hannah's Volunteer Trip to Tanzania

Donation protected
Help Hannah travel to Tanzania and volunteer in a childcare project this summer 2015!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Hannah Judy and I am a junior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I am a psychology major with a minor in applied behavior analysis & developmental/intellectual disabilities. I am involved on campus and absolutely love UNCW. I do not know exactly what I am going to do after graduation next year. However, I plan on getting my masters (possibly in occupational therapy) and working ultimately with children.

Ever since orientation freshman year I have heard numerous stories of students studying abroad and faculty/staff strongly encouraging students to go abroad if they can. I never thought I would ever be one of those students to actually travel abroad. But, for the past few years I have had a dream of going to Africa and volunteering in a school or orphanage working with the underprivileged children and people in the community. Due to financial limitations and the high expense of many abroad programs I have not been able to go. However, after looking into programs with International Volunteer HQ and finding the reasonable program costs they offer I realized that I may be able to finally make my dream a reality.
I have recently been accepted to volunteer with the International Volunteer HQ Tanzania Childcare project for 4 weeks starting June 1, 2015!
During my trip I will be placed in an orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania where I will help with the general running of the orphanage, teaching, cooking, cleaning, farm work, and caring for the children and babies. On the weekends I will be able to explore the culture and the many beautiful sites that the country has to offer, including Mt. Kilimanjaro, safaris, waterfalls, Zanzibar, etc.

As I have never traveled outside of the United States before, I hope to broaden my world view and come back home with new perspectives and unforgettable memories I will carry with me through my entire life. But most of all I hope to put a smile on those children's faces every day I am there and give them a feeling of love and comfort even if I am only there for a short time.

Even though IVHQ has much more affordable prices compared to other programs, traveling abroad still comes at a high price. In addition to the registration fee and program cost, I will be having to pay for a flight to Africa, travel insurance, a passport, vaccinations, and any money I will spend during my trip. If you are able to donate any amount of money to help make this trip possible I will be forever grateful. As a junior in college this summer of 2015 will be the last summer break I have before I graduate. If I do not volunteer abroad this summer I am worried that if the chance arises again it, may be many years from now. I do not want to miss out on what I imagine to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I understand that not everyone is able to make a monetary donation but prayers and support are always appreciated as I travel outside of the US for the first time.

If any of you are interested in looking into International Volunteer HQ and the program I will be going on please visit their website:

Thank you all so much for reading this lengthy message and for all your donations, prayers and support! It is difficult to even put into words how grateful and excited I am to have this opportunity.

God Bless!
