My Dad’s treatment

Our father, David Adams, who will be 56 next month, is going through a very hard time right now. Two months ago, he was complaining of severe pain in his side and I took him to the hospital, where they found a tumor on his right lower lung area & referred him to an oncologist. The oncologist, told us that he suspects pancreatic or liver cancer and that a PET scan and biopsy of the area is needed to determine the best treatment for him. During the scheduling of these procedures, we learned his insurance doesn’t cover these expenses, yet our father desperately needs them.
Our father has not been able to work for some time due to his illness. We know that the road ahead of us is going to be a difficult one to walk down but we will not allow our father to sit around and not receive treatment because facilities will or will not accept his insurance. In the two months we have waited, we have watched his health rapidly decline. That trip to the hospital 2 months ago got us nothing but a bill for $34,000. In the meantime, we wait for hospitals or imaging centers to call the evening before a scheduled procedure to say he can’t have it because they don’t take his insurance. We were able to get his PET scan scheduled but he has to pay out of pocket. We don’t yet know how much we will have to pay for the biopsy. One thing we do know….we can’t wait another 2 months to find out.
