It breaks my heart to write this, but unfortunately my mom is fighting her second battle with cancer. In August of 2022, Vicki was diagnosed with kidney cancer. That following February of 2023 they removed a portion of her right kidney and ultimately cured her kidney cancer. After multiple CTs and PET scans during this time they found a nodule in her upper right lung. It was about the size of the tip of a pencil and they decided to monitor the nodule to see if it would grow. Every 3 months she was getting regular scans to track growth and it seemed to be stagnant. However, this all changed in August of this year when the latest CT scan showed rapid growth of the nodule and inflammation in some lymph nodes. She was then scheduled for a PET scan which showed activity in the nodule and about 20 lymph nodes. She went to Abbott and biopsies of her lungs and a few of the lymph nodes were taken. On September 25th we received the devastating news that all biopsy samples were determined cancerous. After meeting with her oncologist it was revealed that she had stage 3b non-small cell lung cancer. It is at this stage because of the spread of cancer in the lymph nodes through out both sides of her lungs and up into her collarbone and neck region. Her doctors have been working diligently and are being as aggressive as they can with her treatment. On October 2nd a port was placed into her chest and she will officially begin both chemotherapy and radiation on October 14th.
