Join Clint's Journey to Overcome Cancer
My name is Clint, and I just turned 50 years young. When I was 43 years old (2017) I was diagnosed with Cerebellar Ataxia, and more recently I was diagnosed with throat cancer in September of this year (2024). I began radiation and chemotherapy in November 2024 and my last treatment will be completed the last week of December. In 2017, after being diagnosed, I went from a walker to a wheelchair within 6 months. I also went from being an avid camper, hiker, and outdoorsman to being "bed-bound". Being diagnosed with throat cancer has taken the very last of my enjoyments in life from me, as well, my voice. I was once a lead vocalist in a band and aside from that, have always enjoyed music and singing. I have been unable to work since 2017 when I was diagnosed with Ataxia and have been on SSDI since. My wife of almost 25 years, Christeen, and I have been struggling for the last 4 years as she, too, has health issues that prevent her from working but she has not been able to qualify for disability. She has a pacemaker, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and liver failure.
We've been together for almost 25 years (in Feb 2025) and have raised 6 children (3 boys, 3 girls) and have 5 beautiful grandchildren. We have rescued all of our pets throughout our years (2 cats and 8 dogs) and currently have 2 dogs (our princess Dutch Shepherd who's 9 yrs old and our handsome Great Dane/Lab who's 4 yrs old). They are wonderful at supplying copious amounts of unconditional LOVE <3.
We were recently evicted from our apartment and lost everything. This is a common epidemic here in Albuquerque and across the nation. We are currently staying in a motel we cannot afford due to limited income. We do not qualify for any immediate help because we are not considered "chronically" homeless and there are no subsidized housing available in our area. There are waiting lists that are 1-2 years long and they only take applications once per year. We also do not qualify for housing programs because we are not mentally ill or have substance abuse issues.
Asking for help isn't something that either of us are used to doing. We are out of options. We appreciate any help anyone can provide. If you know of any resources we are not aware of, we would gladly look into them for help. We have exhausted all of our social workers at the cancer center and through the human services department.
At this point we are trying to raise enough to getting into an apartment, furnishings and personal and medical expenses for 6 months. Again, any and all help is greatly appreciated. So, if you can spare even $5, we are so very grateful. Please share this on your personal social media as well all help is welcome even from people I may not know.
Thank you for taking your time to read this. Blessed Be!
