John Paul’s Fight #stageIVthriving

I would like to start by saying neither John Paul nor Jessica know that I have started this for them. I am hoping they do not mind, but also know they would never ask for someone to do this for them.
Some of you know me, but many do not. My name is Sarah, I am a friend and co-worker of Jessica aka JZ. I have worked with JZ for about 2 years, so I have been around for the many ups and downs, the tears, the hope, the disappointment, the frustration and all around emotional roller coaster she and John Paul have had with this battle.
As many of you know, John Paul was diagnosed with Stage IV Colorectal Cancer a little over a year and a half ago. His original prognosis was not great so they sought out a second opinion at The Cleveland Clinic. This doctor had a better plan but it also meant John Paul would receive some form of Chemo for the rest of his life.
Every two weeks they trek down to the Clinic for treatment, after hours at the Clinic they go home with John Paul attached to his Chemo pack. Two days later, it’s back down to the Clinic to get unhooked and receive fluids. All the while feeling extreme nausea and pain.
John Paul will never be able to work again so they survive on Jessica’s income and the little bit he receives for disability. The costs will continue to add up, the insurance deductibles, coinsurance, medication, gas to get him to his appointments, parking at the Clinic, and everyone knows how much more money it costs to eat a healthier diet which he needs.
Jessica is able to stay home to take care of John Paul when he has really bad days by using her allotted vacation and sick days, but those days are quickly used up each year. What does she do then? She stays home with him, but it is unpaid. So not only does she have the worry and stress of fighting this battle with the love of her life but now has to worry about money to pay the Dr bills, money to buy the healthier foods he needs, and putting gas in the car.
John Paul and Jessica just met with another oncologist, who believes his cancer is progressing. She would like him to participate in a clinical trial, in Florida. They have been able to set up an appointment to meet with the Dr. Although this brings new hope, it also brings more unexpected expenses.
In the short time I have known Jessica, she is constantly giving and helping others, whether it’s family members or friends. I think it’s time we help her and John Paul.
Every dollar given is a few more stress free minutes Jessica has to spend with John Paul. Every dollar given helps John Paul get that much closer to kicking cancers ass.
