HELLO FRIENDS!!
Hi everyone, my name is Mackenzie Thomas! Many of you don’t know me but I am one of the Caregivers for Little Tyr Rodriguez. I have had the honor of helping take care of Little Tyr for the past few years. In that time I have had the privilege of becoming close with Little Tyr’s parents, Tyr & Vikky. Tyr and Vikky are such inspirations to me and I’m always so amazed at their patience, perseverance, and unconditional love for their little boy. In addition to both them both working full time, they always dedicate countless hours to Little Tyr’s development and continue to advocate for individuals with special needs. I feel so blessed to be a part of their family!
As most of you know, Tyr & Vikky over the years have become very active in the Autism community. They have fundraised nearly $50,000 toward Autism research in the honor of their son. They are mentors to other parents whom have kids with special needs, volunteering their time to teach strategies and interventions.
As amazing as their contributions are to the Autism community, every dollar that they have fundraised over the years has gone directly to Autism research. While it’s a very worthy cause, it seems unfortunate that Little Tyr does not directly benefit from the finances raised. Tyr and Vikky have to privately pay for Little Tyr’s Therapy services, ABA services, Speech Therapy, OT services, Feeding specialist, in addition to the numerous medical specialists that service Little Tyr.
I see how these financial burdens weigh heavy on Tyr and Vikky, yet they never complain about it and continue forward taking everything in stride with smiles on their faces. They are incredible!
I wanted to do something special for Tyr and Vikky to benefit Little Tyr this year. Some of you may know that April is Autism Awareness Month, and while Tyr and Vikky plan to do their usual involvements this month with the special needs community, I thought it’d be great to host a fundraiser for Little Tyr…so that every dollar that is raised through this fundraiser will go directly to Little Tyr and the services that he receives. Another thing we hope to secure with these funds is a one on one aid for Tyr in his classroom. Currently he receives far less attention than he needs in the classroom and the school district refuses to provide a one-on-one aide for him stating that "budget doesn't call for it". Just last month Little Tyr was able to escape off of the schools' campus unbeknownst to the staff. Luckily someone in the parking lot was able to grab him. If he had a one-on-one aide this would not have happened. This is absolutely unacceptable! Some of you in the most loving way, have supported Little Tyr in the past with his fight against Autism by donating towards the national foundation Autism Speaks. I can't thank you enough for your support and generosity....you are amazing!!!!
