Help our "adopted" Syrian refugee family
Donation protected
The war in Syria, which began over 10 years ago, has displaced over 6 million Syrian people, many of them women, children and young families.
My family and I "adopted" a Syrian refugee family almost 2 years ago. They have been in the U.S. for a few years now and are working hard at acclimating to our American culture and learning the English language; no small task to be sure. They are a wonderful loving family of 5; mom and dad in their 30's, 2 school age children and one toddler. I'm not sharing their names or pictures at their request as it would be embarrassing for them if any of their Syrian friends saw that they were in such desperate need of financial help.
The father, who I'll call Karam, is a very hard worker and is doing everything he can to provide for his family. Karam injured his shoulder and recently had surgery called Cortical Button Tenodesis. Basically, he tore a tendon that runs from his shoulder to his elbow and this procedure reattaches it. We watched a video of the procedure two weeks ago and it was not pleasant.
Karam is in a great deal of pain and per his doctor's orders, is now unable to work for 6 months, although it may take up to a year before he is fully recovered. As the sole wage-earner, this is a very difficult time for Karam and his family.
Our family has been able to help them some with their finances and with food but they need more than we can provide them with on our own. Your donation, should you choose to give, will be mainly used to pay the rent for their meager apartment just outside Baltimore. They are currently only receiving a small amount in disability benefits so the need is urgent. Any funds left over after their rent is paid will go to other basic needs such as food and clothing.
This family has lived in three different countries since being displaced by the war in Syria and has no family in the U.S. Anything you give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless you!
Sincerely,
Cragg
