Indian Peacock Fire Disaster

Donation protected
Indian Peacock Restaurant located in downtown Peterborough suffered a disastrous fire on October 24th, 2022. This business consists of two hardworking brothers and their mother who have come to Canada and put all their efforts into providing customers with authentic Indian meals, grocery items and traditional items for the home.

Peterborough has a very large community of Indian students who leave their countries and the safety of their parent's homes to study and make what they believe is a better life in Canada. These students leave their homes on the sweat of their parent's hard work, which is terrifying and not an easy adjustment, both mentally and socially. What Indian peacock gives these students, that make up a large portion of the workforce in Peterborough, is a safe haven and familiarity in a new space. Indian peacock is where customers can come and be fed not only affordably but in a way that reminds them of home. This isn't commercialized Indian food like your typical butter chicken. This is food that makes you feel like it was mom or grandma themselves that are feeding you. This tragic incident has created a hole in the heart of such an integral part of the student community. Especially on the most celebrated day of Diwali. This family's livelihood has been damaged, and the community is now missing a part of what they depend on to feel that they still have some connection to their roots.

It is hard enough being a business owner trying to navigate in our current climate, let alone coming to a new country and providing authentic food that speaks to the soul.

Our communal support can help this family try to come out of this on the other end.

Note: All proceeds will go directly to the business owners.

About the organizer: I am a loyal customer of this restaurant who has been shown nothing but kindness from this family-run business over the years. I have put this together on behalf of the Khera family during a time where they are still trying to digest what has happened to their business. The Khera family is aware that this GoFundMe has been created on their behalf.
