Jeter's medical battle & recovery
Donation protected
Hi everyone, we are raising money for Jeter Rivera and his family while the doctors continue to search for answers! Jeter was a healthy and happy 13 yr old boy. He loves acting and Taekwondo. Jeter is currently a 1st degree black belt who was getting ready to test for his 2nd degree black belt. When he wasn't doing Taekwondo he was pursuing his other passion and his dream of being an actor. He has done some acting jobs on Blue Bloods working with Donnie Walhburg as the son of Lou Diamond Phyllips and has also been in Orange is the New Black. Up until a few weeks ago Jeter was embracing life! About 15 days ago Jeter started with numbness in his right arm. Which progressed to tingling and weakness in his right arm. Severe headaches started shortly after along with vomiting and fever. His parents kept taking him to urgent care, his pediatrician and the local ER but they were always told that everything was fine. The parents kept insisting something was wrong and continued to search for help. As time passed, Jeters health continued to decline. He began losing feeling in his right leg and he started having spasms/body jerks on his right leg and arm. Jeter was admitted into the hospital on April 4, 2022. He has continued to decline. Every test done would come back negative. After 4 days at the local hospital Jeter was transferred to UVA Childrens hospital where he continues to decline and the doctors still do not have an answer. Jeter requires a lot of help while the doctors search for answers and effective treatment. He is no longer able to use his right arm or leg. He is not able to empty his bladder on his own. Countless tests have been done and still no answer. He is now starting to feel weakness in his left leg. Steroid treatment was started since they know there's Inflammation in the top of the spinal cord which is putting pressure on his pain nerves making him feel things more painful then it should be. After 2 failed spinal tap attempts they were able to successfully withdraw spinal fluid on their 3rd attempt. where they are awaiting results. They noticed pressure in his spinal cord was high so they released some pressure which helped with his headaches but that is the only thing that has been better. New treatment will begin on April 13 where he will begin a plasma exchange treatment. Jeter has a long road ahead of him. His family is heartbroken. His brothers are currently staying with the grandparents while mom and dad stay with Jeter at UVA which is over 2 hrs from their home. Mom was a stay home mom who homeschooled her children and dad was the main source of income but due to testing/decision making and Jeters limited function dad had to take an unpaid leave of absence from work so he could be by his sons side. Please help support Jeters road to recovery.
