My dear friends,
I have been blessed with the opportunity to South Africa at the end of June with my church on a Global Outreach trip. We will be working alongside our local partner, Horizon International, to facilitate a retreat for teenage African orphans, and a VBS for younger orphans. It will be a great way to build relationships and learn more about the challenges these children and young adults face.
Horizon International was started in 2001 with a vision to provide hope to the children of Africa who have been orphaned because of HIV/AIDs.
"Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ's law." --Galatians 6:2

There are many reasons I am feeling called to this particular work such as the desire to share Christ's love with orphans. But also, to be honest, I have been feeling a "nagging" if you will, in my heart, to just...DO. To get out there. I already know I have the passion for serving others and I do it frequently in my local community. But there's more to it...it wasn't enough. God's world is so much bigger than Noblesville, bigger than the state of Indiana, and bigger than the United States. God's world and so much bigger than....myself!
It wasn't until Carmen, my best friend, who was like a sister to me, recently passed away due to AIDS, that the "nagging" got so strong, I could not even stand to be around myself. Then the opportunity to go on a mission trip was thrown in my face. After praying, I felt led to choose South Africa. I then learned (I suppose I just didn't realize) that this was a trip to help out HIV/AIDS orphans. I then began to cry. This was perfect. God has a plan. I'm scared. I'm thrilled. I'm honored. I'm humbled. Carmen would be so proud of me for doing this...for stepping out of my comfort zone. For not focusing on myself and my small bubble I live in in this town. For giving back to humanity, growing in my walk with God -- strengthening my relationship with Him. For having a heart for the underprivileged and orphans. And for using my skills, talents, spiritual gifts as God intended.
"God brings imperfect people together to perform His work on earth. He does not send angels...He uses burdened, broken-hearted, weeping men and women." --David Wilkerson

Carmen and Me
This will be my first mission trip, as well as, my first visit to Africa. I am sure this will be a life-changing
experience for me and a time to humble myself before the Father. I ask for your prayers and support as I
embark on this challenging adventure.
I ask that you please pray for our:
*Safe travel and safety while in the country
*The ministry we will be doing -- that hearts would be prepared to receive it
*That God would prepare my heart for His work
"Your prayers move God to change the world...Actions in heaven begin when someone prays on earth." -Max Lucado
"A person who can pray is the mightiest instrument Christ has in this world." -E.M. Bounds
"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." James 5:16
The total cost of this trip is approximately $3500. I pray and trust that God will provide.
I would be more than honored and grateful if you would partner with me by supporting me financially, in addition to your prayers and encouragement. You can join me in being a part of something special, helping others, "creating a world of hope for African orphan children whose parents have died from HIV/AIDS."
