A beautiful Spring day of flying in the Magic Valley took a terrifying turn as the heat of the day faded from the land. Jesse hit a large sinking air mass just off launch. Coupled with winds from the South, it prevented him from reaching the standard landing zone. He was forced to choose an alternate LZ and quickly became boxed in by power lines as he sank towards the ground. A sharp turn to avoid entanglement pitched the glider at a steep angle, of which he was unable to recover. The impact resulted in several fractured vertebrae, involving both his neck and lower back. After a helicopter ride to Chattanooga, the surgeons were able to put the pieces back together with a little added hardware.
Jesse has remained incredibly positive throughout this ordeal. Everyone around him can't help but smile as he cracks jokes, even when first responders are assessing him or he's surrounded by monitors in the ICU. He has one of the strongest spirits of anyone around. If anyone can fight his way back to health, it's Jesse. However, he can't do this alone.
He has a long road to recovery, including a lot of physical therapy and mounting medical expenses. Lauren has taken time off work to take care of his appointments and therapy sessions. Jesse and Lauren need our help. Any contribution is greatly appreciated while Jesse is recovering and unable to work. Many thanks to everyone, including family, friends and well wishing people that have not yet gotten to meet one of the best guys around.
