Jenni's Road to Recovery

Jennifer's Story

Hello, for those that don't know Jennifer or as we call her Jenni, please allow me to explain.

Jenni is a 38 year old single mom of a 16 year old son. This past October after our family trip to Disney World, my sister in law caught Covid-19. On October 16th after having a hard time breathing her Momma Rita took her to our local hospital. She was admitted and started on oxygen. Two days after being admitted she was transferred to the hospitals ICU floor. On October 22, 6 days after admission I received a txt from Jenni to call the hospital ASAP. The nurse informed me that they would be intabiting Jenni and transferring her to Wake-Med in Raleigh. Jennifer was in the critical ICU on a ventilator in a medically induced coma at Wake-Med until October 29.
During the evening of October 29th we received a call from Wake-Med that Jennifer wasn't doing well and that they didn't know that they could do much more. Her lungs were so swollen and damaged from Covid and pneumonia that they won't able to expell any Co2.
Thankfully a Doctor from Duke hospital read her case and offered to treat her. At 11:45 pm on October 29th Jennifer had surgery to place two catheters in two of her major arteries and transferred to Duke University Hospital into the critical medical ICU. They then placed her on a ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine as well as the ventilator. This machine is what they call a 3rd lung, or like dialysis for her lungs.
Since being placed on ECMO they have been able to filter out the Co2 and keep her other organs from becoming damaged or failing. On November 16th the doctors did a tracheostomy, this was in hopes that they could bring her out of the coma. She is slowly coming out of it and is fighting so hard to get better so she can get back to the love of her life, her son Mason. Each day we are seeing her respond alittle more to us by opening her eyes, moving her head. And lastnight she squeezed my hand!
We are currently on day 35 of her being in the hospital and day 25 of her on a ventilator and coma.

Jennifer is the greatest example of what hard work and dedication can do. She left a bad marriage with nothing but herself and her son.. And since has bought her own home and land. Providing a good life for her son Mason full of love and stability. Something that so many women in her position aren't able to do.
Please help us help her as she has such a long hard road ahead of her and Mason.
Jennifer is a fighter and a hero to me for the amount of strength she has shown me in the past 12 years that I have been lucky enough to be apart of her family. ♥
If nothing else please help us pray for continued healing and strength during this long road.
