COVID took her independence! Plz Help her Graduate

Doação protegida
July 22nd, 2023, my daughter's life was turned upside down. Jayde was a healthy, 21 yr old, 4th year Biology major at ULL, finishing her summer classes with a 4.0 gpa. She had symptoms of, what she thought was, a mild sinus infection but tested positive for Covid on July 17th after losing her sense of taste. By July 21st she felt better, missed mom & dad and was negative for covid so her Daddy and I went to visit her for the weekend.

On July 22nd, 2023, we were outside and Jayde started getting tired. She stood up to go inside and lay down but upon standing, her legs wouldn't move, her vision got blurry, and down she went. We were close enough that I was able to get to her and help ease her to the ground and encouraged her to just sit for a minute. Thinking she was just dehydrated or still unwell from Covid.

Jayde was admitted to Slidell Memorial Hospital on July 24th. After bloodwork, a lumbar puncture, and MRIs she was transferred to Northshore Rehabilitation Clinic in Lacombe where she went through 15 days of extensive physical & occupational therapy. Upon our admission the Doctors and staff assured us they had seen this and she would be walking out of there in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, that was not the case and our Jayde-Boo is still unable to walk and relies on the use of a wheelchair.

I had taken a leave of absence from my job and haver been by her side every minute for 19 days inpatient! 15 days outpatient. She was discharged from the clinic on August 11th. Jayde is an Assistant Director RA at her University and already registered for the semester. Her Daddy has stayed home and taken on extra shifts at work so I can be my daughter's personal care attendant so she doesn't have to give up her dreams of being a doctor for something that she WILL recover from... We just aren't sure when.

I received an email from my employer 2 days ago "terminating my employment" because I don't know when Jayde will be physically independent but she IS getting stronger. They are thinking the Covid caused an autoimmune response called polymyositis which caused inflammation in her nerves and her muscles to die. She is still doing outpatient therapy in Lafayette by her school but considering she can't drive, I NEED to be here. There is nothing wrong with her beautiful mind so if I have to spend every day waiting in my car to get her from class to class and to therapy, I will and I HAVE BEEN.

Knowing that I don't have a job to go home to and the slow pace at which applying for any type of assistance is taking, I am desperate. I can't tell you how long it will take for her to fully recover but I can tell you that Mom and Dad will do whatever we can to support her through these unchartered waters. We are scared and uncertain but faithful and optimistic. Our friends, family, and strangers have been praying so hard because we have made it this far and I certainly feel so blessed to have my Jayde with us. If you have a few moments to send some healing prayers our way or can help in ANY way while I am away from home and in Lafayette... I am so Grateful!

Please keep my baby Jayde in your prayers! She may be a 21yr old college student but she will always be my child. Job or no job.... God will provide a way, I am confident of that.

Thank you in advance for EVERYTHING and PLEASE SHARE!!! Who knows... Jayde Freeman might be the Doctor to save one of our lives one day.
