Jason Higginbotham

On February 23, 2021 our lives changed forever. That evening my husband was involved in a terrible motor vehicle accident after someone tried to run him off the road, and was immediately rushed to a trauma center. As my family and I went about our day, we had no idea Jason was fighting for his life in an emergency room as a trauma patient. Receiving a call that your husband is in an intensive care unit with many injuries is something that no one wants to experience in the middle of the night.
The scope of Jason’s injuries were hard to understand, and compounded by the fact that he was unable to have visitors due to the Covid pandemic. He suffered multiple facial fractures including multiple jaw fractures, a fractured eye socket and neurological head injury. His decreased level of consciousness, and his inability to speak because of his facial injuries made it very difficult to communicate with Jason initially. Over 36 hours after he entered the emergency room, I was finally able to visit him and stay with him due to his lack of ability to communicate over the phone.

When I finally saw Jason I realized  his injuries were much more severe than I could have  ever imagined. At the age of 33 he was broken, he was literally fractured from head to toe. He had facial fractures, closed head injury, multiple rib fractures, a pulmonary contusion, a broken back, an ankle fracture and was in an unimaginable amount of pain.

As I sat at his bedside I began wondering how I will pay our bills and take care of our family.  I have barely left the hospital since his admission three weeks ago. Jason’s pain remains unbearable and he still has neurologic impairment which makes it impossible for him to walk or for me to leave his side.

Not only is Jason unable to work I have found myself only able to work for an hour or two here and there, falling far short of the income that we need to support our family. I have never started a go fund me or asked anyone for any help. I’ve always thought I could do everything on my own. I’m starting to realize that without the help and support of my friends and family these terrible injuries may also cause our family to lose the financial security that we have always provided through hard work and determination.

While Jason and myself both remain determined that he will be discharged from the hospital soon the work is painful and slow and although he has already had several surgeries his recovery may require several more procedures. Jason is an amazing husband, a very hard-working man and a great father to our five children.

Please pray for Jason and I, and our family. And, if you were able to offer any financial support it would be greatly appreciated.
