Hello. This is my son, James. On Saturday August 3, 2019 he went to a local club to see a band play. There was a mosh pit that he was in, that got out of hand, so he decided to leave the pit. As he was leaving, one of the guys got crazy out of hand and started punching him in the back of the head, several times. When James turned to get away from the guy, the guy punched him in his face a few times, too. He fell to the ground, and in true mosh pit fashion, he was helped up and put back in the pit, as no one seemed to notice that he was just assaulted. He felt the affects of the blows right away and went to his car to wait out the nausea and dizziness, before he attempted to drive himself home.
He went home with a bloody nose, a major headache and dazed. He woke up spitting up blood. He went the next few days trying to work through the headache. He soon developed back pain, in addition to the headache. He wasn't sleeping much, and each day his pain continued to grow. Thursday morning, around 4 am, he started throwing up from the pain, and proceeded to do so the rest of the morning. He called me at 8 am crying in pain, still throwing up. James has an extremely high tolerance for pain. So, his call was very concerning for me. We ended up in the ER. After several CT scans and MRI's, they discovered that he had a severe concussion(TBI) with bleeding on the frontal lobe that drained down his spine and pooled in his mid-back and at his lower lumbar area. The blood pools are what is causing the excruciating back pain and extreme spams. His medical team kept him in the hospital for four days to monitor his condition. They did more MRI's to be sure the bleeding stopped, and to decide whether they should operate to drain the blood.
They sent him home with me, as he could not walk very well, and could not care for himself. The first week was very rough. He is doing better and he can walk, now. But, he still has spasms and a lot of pain. We've seen his PC twice, since he was released from the hospital. His reports are as follows:
- he absolutely cannot drive, or work, until released by the neurologist and his PC. Projected time is at least three months.
- he has numbing in his hand and leg on his left side and spasms in his hand and at his lower lumbar (similar to Parkinson's shaking)
- his eyesight has worsened and he has no control in his left eye to follow prompts(light/finger)
- he has short term memory loss and sometimes struggles to put thought to words, as well as slow speech.
- he has been told that he could suffer from migraines for the rest of his life and he is now more likely to develop dementia. It's not likely that he will have seizures for life, as he has not had any as of yet. His healing could take as long as a year, or more, before he gets back to normal. And, his normal may not be what it was before his injuries. He may have to get used to a "new normal", post injury.
- he has to start Physical Therapy, and he has to have a follow up MRI and a follow up with his neurologist.
Thankfully, he has since received insurance and has full coverage for all his medical needs. Thank God! That was a huge burden lifted. However, he has been out of work since August 6th. And, as mentioned, he will be out of work for at least three months, suggested, at this time. This is the reason we are reaching out for help. Starting this month, James will need help to cover his rent, and the rest of his bills, as he cannot drive, or work, until further notice. For the time being, we are only asking for the three months, as projected, until further notice. We are believing for a full and complete recovery, and that he can return to work, sooner than later. Please consider donating whatever you can, or whatever your heart leads you to give, to help get him through this time. We also welcome prayers.
Thank you, so much, in advance.
