Help with vital Car repair costs, necessary for Safety

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jacqui, and I am a single mother to two wonderful children: my beautiful 8-year-old daughter and my clever son, who just turned 2.

Six months ago, I made the brave decision to leave the family home I shared with my son’s father; seeking a safer, healthier life for my kids. With the support of the Salvation Army's DV services, I found temporary crisis accommodation and spent every moment searching for a new rental. Thankfully, i was approved for a place quickly, and for that time, things felt hopeful.

Now, six months into this new life, we have faced challenges, but I see a light ahead. My kids have shown incredible resilience through this transition, but I am sharing my story here because i need your help.

Recently, my car broke down in the middle of an intersection, and my mechanic has quoted $4,000 for the necessary gearbox replacement.. This is the lowest price I could find for both the part ($2500) and labor ($1500). Regrettably, my current financial situation relies solely on my Centerlink payments, and after regular living expenses, my budget is exhausted. While I manage our limited income diligently to avoid discomfort and hunger, the unexpected cost of this car repair is beyond my means.

I have proactively sought food relief and assistance in an effort to save for the repair, but I do not have the option of taking out a loan, and my family are unable to help.

This vehicle is not just a means of transportation; it is essential for our safety. It enables us to escape if necessary, and is a key part of my DV safety plan. This specifically weighs heavily on my mind as a mum. Additionally, it impacts our ability to get to school and attend community activities, including my weekly gym classes that provide social engagement and vital mental health support for both me and my son. Our routine with a vehicle allows us to avoid isolation, connecting us to our small support network.

I have do not have a very large social or online reach, and i have a smaller support network than some. In complete honesty, this is a very uncomfortable move to make by asking publicly for help.
However, I am reaching out to you, hoping that compassion and community support can help me cover some of the cost of this repair.
Your kindness will help us regain our mobility and security, allowing us to continue building our new life of growth, safety and connection.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any support you can provide would mean the world to us. Your personal shares and mentions are welcomed, encouraged and highly appreciated.

With our hearts,
Jacqui, and her kids x
