Jack's Eagle Scout Project: Illegal Tire Removal
Donation protected
I am Jackson Daly, a Life Scout in Boy Scout Troop 804 in Millersville, Maryland and a resident of Arden on the Severn. I am currently working toward becoming an Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout project, I plan to remove an illegal tire dump on public property near the Severn River in the woods off of Evergreen Road in Crownsville.
These tires need to be removed because tires do not decompose. When tires pile up, they can release chemicals into the air, ground, and water, negatively affecting the surrounding ecosystem. When a tire sits in the sun, it releases methane gas into the air. This greenhouse gas increases our carbon footprint and can contribute to climate change. This is especially concerning because this tire dump is very close to the Severn River.
I have donations for everything associated with the clean up, except for the cost to dispose of the tires. I estimate disposal will cost around $2,000. I am reaching out to you to ask for donations to offset the cost. If I have any excess funds, I will give them to the Severn River Association.
