Hi there,
my name is Leah and I am 28 years old. I am divorced and struggling to pay for debt for IVF due to struggles with endometriosis, adenomyosis, and lupus.
For years, I was told I had “unexplained infertility.” During that time, I went through 3 egg retrievals, 1 miscarriage, and 4 failed embryo transfers. IVF played a huge role in my marriage falling apart, and I spent years struggling mentally because I couldn’t understand why becoming a mom — the one thing I felt was my purpose in life — wasn’t happening for me.
I know I’ll always be a mom to my angel babies, but now I’m trying to rebuild my life from the ground up. I’ve been divorced for a year and a half, but I’m still carrying close to $15,000 in IVF debt. I’m in the U.S. Air Force, and unfortunately Tricare only covered a limited amount of medications, so most of the IVF process was paid out of pocket.
My ex took half of the debt, but he makes significantly more than I do, and financially I’ve really been struggling trying to keep up. I also don’t have family support or really anyone helping me through this, which has made everything feel even heavier trying to carry it alone.
Asking for help is honestly one of the hardest things for me to do, but I’ve reached a point where I can admit I need it.
Even $5 helps more than you know. And if anyone knows of resources, programs, or advice for managing IVF-related debt, I would truly appreciate it.
