Oftentimes, it’s the people who will fight the hardest for others and go to battle for people they don’t even know, who choose to keep their own struggles silent. With their permission, I’m starting this page to help the Grigsby family. They’ve suffered in silence for over a year now. It’s time to get their story out there to get them the support they desperately need and deserve.
Kerry Grigsby served as a Deputy Sheriff with Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 12 years. Before that, he served at Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office for 2 years. Just like any law enforcement officer, he’s worked all different shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events. Kerry held numerous positions while at CCSO including jail Corporal, jail Sergeant, and eventually acting First Sergeant of the jail. He then moved to Patrol and eventually earned a spot on the SWAT team. He was a Patrol Sergeant for approximately 2 years. Also, he was the recipient of many awards including a valor award, deputy of the year, unit commendations, top defensive tactics, and others. Even with all of those awards, he’s never wanted to be in the spotlight. He’s a deputy who loves working with his community, enjoys helping others, and enjoys being part of a team that works to make Culpeper a safer place.
In September 2021, Kerry contracted Covid in the line of duty. He has not been able to return to work since. He had no idea when he became ill, that Covid would impact his life in so many ways and would cause him to lose his beloved career at the young age of 38. He continues to suffer with a long list of symptoms including memory loss, slurred speech, migraines, extreme fatigue, chest pain, back pain, lung pain, hearing loss, and vision loss. He also has multiple pulmonary nodules and encephalopathy.
Due to ongoing legal matters related to all of this, I cannot go into more detail. If I could, I would explain to our community how unfairly the Grigsby family is being treated and the lack of support they are receiving. Please realize that, recently, due to no fault of his own, Kerry was forced to medically retire. So, after a year of silently soldiering through with his wife by his side, hoping for some relief from his many symptoms, searching for answers from doctors, and trying to get a decision regarding a worker’s compensation claim, he has none of that. Instead, he lost his beloved career due to an illness he contracted while at work. He and his family are left with no source of income and no medical insurance. Recently, Kerry was seen by a pulmonologist who would like him to have more testing related to the pulmonary nodules. That is on hold because they have no insurance and no money to pursue testing at this time.
Kerry’s wonderful wife Brittany has been his partner and most certainly his biggest advocate through all of this. They have been together for 15 years and have 5 children, 4 of whom still live at home. They also have 2 cats and a dog.
Please don’t let the Grigsby family continue to suffer one more minute like this. They don’t deserve the hand they’ve been dealt. Let’s try to make their burden a little bit lighter. Please contribute if you can. Any amount is appreciated and will go towards their daily living expenses at this point. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please share!
