Is There Hope for These Children?
Donazione protetta
I am appealing to you on behalf of four Canadian born children who are in desperate need of help. I have not used their real names.
These children were all abandoned by their mother in May of 2019 and now resides in another town. Kayla, the eldest, is five, but was likely sexually abused when she was two, by the father of her sister, Leah, who is now four. This man wants custody of Leah and she needs a lawyer to prevent this. I've been told that he has been accused of the same abuse with the girls of another family. This needs to be investigated. As well, Kayla needs serious counselling, as she is a very angry and unhappy child.
The legal and loving guardian of all the children is Luther Schmidt, as well as being the father of the two youngest; Ashley, aged two, and Leroy, who is one year old. I am amazed that he has taken on the responsibility of all four children but I can see how much he loves every one of them.
Luther, aged 29, was born in Germany and worked as a Force Protection Officer in Germany. He came to Canada in 2015 and wanting to stay here, he had applied to be a landed immigrant, his sponsor being the mother of these children. Through a mistake made by an agent of the government, she was disqualified as a sponsor because they thought she had received welfare, which she had not. This meant that Luther was now without Landed Immigrant Status and was not permitted to work here.
To complicate things further, Luther was diagnosed with cancer and since he no longer had Alberta Health, he was responsible for his own costs of treatment, which was lengthy, difficult and in the many thousands of dollars. Fortunately, the treatments were successful.
Luther needs an immigration lawyer as he needs help with all of this government red tape nonsense. The government has been incredibly inefficient in processing every single step and he seems to be getting nowhere fast. When asked how he has been living without working and he said he had had some help from friends and that the government child credit was a big help. She immediately took steps to cancel those payments and refuses to issue the paperwork to give him any kind of help. Since the allowance is for the children, and was paying for their rent and food, it is unknown why she did that but it has left these children in a dire situation.
Thanks from Merry Jo and Brock Smith in co-operation with John Peter and Johanna Schmaus, Gay and Gordon Schmaus and all the team.
