911 First Responder who is now an Injured Mother
Donazione protetta
Recently while in performance of her duties as a veteran RUMC EMT, Nicole Markovic was violently attacked by a perpetrator. The perpetrator jumped off the back deck of the ambulance and struck Nicole on top of her head with her elbow.
This attack could be compared to what you might see in a wrestling match on TV when an athlete who is also an actor might jump from the ropes in an aerial attack on their opponent.
However this was certainly not scripted and was very much a real impact.
Nicole was instantly knocked unconscious and crumbled to the concrete below.
Further diagnosis show that Nicole has suffered injuries to the discs and vertebrae in her neck.
These injuries have a high likelihood of requiring surgery in the future to somewhat repair but as we know, sadly, her neck will probably never be the same.
It is uncertain if Nicole will ever be able to serve the Staten Island community or the City of New York as an EMT again.
After 13 years of dedicated service her future as a first responder hangs in the balance.
As you could imagine she is beyond concerned about the well being of her family and especially her 18 month old son.
Anyone that works in this field knows that Workman's Compensation insurance only pays a small fraction of your earnings while you're out LODI from work.
Also, you all most certainly know bills and monetary responsibilities don't ever stop.
Kindly find it in your heart to contribute to this as it would truly benefit someone who is deserving of such love.
Nicole and her family, friends, and especially her EMS family, are hopeful for a full recovery and return to duty.
Right now she would benefit so greatly from your kindness and love as she begins to navigate this long path to healing.
Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards those of you that care enough to help.
Thank you so much.
