Increasing Health Awareness in our Community
Donazione protetta
My name is Miles Joseph and I am a third year Neuroscience Major, with a minor in Health and Medical Sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology. At Georgia Tech, I am the only Neuroscience Gold Scholar and I have recently been named a 2024 Student Ambassador. I am contestant number two in the 2024 Mr. 1908 Scholarship Pageant.
Health disparity research is where my heart lies. On campus I conduct Sickle research at the Botchwey Lab, a disease whose patients are over 90% black. And at the Emory University I work with passionate scientists to create the first Neural assay for a rare disease that affects 2000 people world wide. My passion, involvement, and research in advancing the medical field is driven by the challenges and disparities that we face in our local community. I witnessed family navigate dementia and gastrointestinal tumors, which ultimately claimed their lives. Using my platform of “Empower our Families”, I will ensure that families are aware and knowledgeable about health issues that may impact themselves and others that they love. I plan to do this through partnerships with organizations that share the same visions of stronger families and communities. I want to impact our community, supplement the growth and development of black families to fight against these challenges, and ensure that if you all are faced with the same challenges, well-equipped tools and resources will be readily available to you.
