In Loving Memory of Mabel

On Thursday the 29th of October, our family received the devastating news that our mother had passed away in Nairobi, Kenya.

Our mum’s last few months saw her at the forefront of the COVID-19 response, reaching marginalised communities across Kenya. It is ironic that in her devotion to the response, she unfortunately contracted the virus. Although taking the necessary precautions to keep safe whilst working, her underlying heart condition heightened her risk and ultimately led to her sudden passing.

Our mum was a mother to many, she spent her life working hard to give back to the community and hometown she loved dearly. She can rest peacefully knowing she had cared for and inspired so many.

My family have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from my mum’s friends and family these past few days. Everyone's memories of my mum speak to her character, she was larger than life with an infectious laugh.

The death of a larger-than-life woman like her did not make sense at first, but now we believe her personality was too large for this life, and so she has transcended onto the next and may finally rest. We are forever grateful to be the children of such a mighty woman. She was taken too soon from us but will never be forgotten.

This page is to cover the cost of her funeral, hospital bills and other expenses; to give her the burial she deserves in her home town of Shinyalu, Kenya. We never really got to say goodbye to her and so it’s important for us to give her the send-off she truly deserves.
