On March 18, 2026, the world lost an incredible man, Nathan Bulat, who passed suddenly from a massive heart attack at just 47 years old. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 22+ years, Kelly, and their daughters, Anna (18), Lucy (16), and Jane (15).
For those who knew Nathan, you know how rare he was. His heart was pure gold, his humor elevated "dad jokes" to an art form, and his love for his family was something we all admired and aspired to. As a teacher, he left a lasting impact...students requested him year after year, and even after he moved on, a graduating class asked him to return to Maui to deliver their commencement speech.
Nathan and Kelly built a beautiful life in Canada, where they are surrounded by a large and deeply connected community of family and friends who have been touched by their kindness, generosity, and spirit. During their time on Maui, they also became cherished members of our community, and we feel incredibly lucky to call them our close friends. No matter where you know them from, many of us are feeling the same pull to do something, however small, to show our love and support.
For those who feel moved to contribute, these funds will carry Nathan's legacy forward in a place he loved, the classroom. In partnership with the school where he most recently taught, all funds raised will establish a scholarship in his name for a student who shows the curiosity, work ethic, and love of science that Nathan inspired in so many. It's a simple, meaningful way for his impact to continue shaping young lives for years to come.
We recognize that everyone shows support in their own way, and simply holding Kelly and the girls in your thoughts and prayers means so much. Thank you for loving this family in whatever way feels right to you.
