In Loving Memory of Maribel Cortez

To say that Maribel lived a short life would be an understatement. Not because she unexpectedly passed before what anyone would reasonably consider “their” time, but because such a notion would not do justice to the amount of love and energy she radiated in her years on this earth. These energies, these feelings, these emotions, were enough to fill the space and time of several lives and souls. One could have asked Maribel the question “who are you?” several times, and each instance would yield a different answer - a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a convener of happiness and support for those she loved; an unfiltered personality quick to snap you back into reality one second, and give you the shirt off her back the next. Her appetite for life was only matched by her commitment and devotion to her daughter, Leah, and her family. And as Maribel now continues on this uncharted path into a new existence, when she takes pause to look back, there she will find her friends and family gazing upon her, as they have and always will, with unconditional love and thankfulness for all that she gave this world.

On behalf of Maribel and her family, thank you very much for all of your love, support, thoughts, and prayers. Your donations will go towards funding Maribel's funeral and supporting her family through this tough time.

Decir que Maribel tuvo una vida corta sería una subestimación. No porque falleció inesperadamente antes de lo que cualquiera consideraría razonablemente "su" tiempo, sino porque tal noción no haría justicia a la cantidad de amor y energía que irradiaba en sus años en este mundo. Esta energía, estos sentimientos, estas emociones, fueron suficientes para llenar el espacio y el tiempo de varias vidas y almas. Uno podría haberle preguntado a Maribel "¿quién eres tú?" Varias veces, y cada caso resultaría en una respuesta diferente: una madre, una hermana, una hija, una amiga, una convocadora de felicidad y apoyo para aquellos a quienes amaba; una personalidad sin filtro que te traía a la realidad en un segundo y te ofrecía todo lo que tenía en siguiente segundo. Su apetito por la vida solo fue igualado por su compromiso y devoción por su hija, Leah, y su familia. Y mientras Maribel continúa ahora en este camino desconocido hacia una nueva existencia, cuando tome una pausa para mirar hacia atrás, allí encontrará a sus amigos y familiares mirándola, como lo han hecho y siempre lo harán, con amor incondicional y agradecimiento por todo lo que ella ha hecho y lo que dio este mundo.
