First, thank you for opening the link. We are reaching out to all who are willing to help my family in any way they can. My little boy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
What does that mean?
Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow — the spongy tissue inside bones where blood cells are made. The word "acute" in acute lymphocytic leukemia comes from the fact that the disease progresses rapidly and creates immature blood cells, rather than mature ones. The word "lymphocytic" in acute lymphocytic leukemia refers to the white blood cells called lymphocytes, which ALL affects. Acute lymphocytic leukemia is also known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Ian is a sweet, loving, spirited little boy. He was always very active. I would always see him running and jumping from place to place like any two-year-old would. That is one of the reasons I assumed the bruises on his legs were completely normal for a healthy two-year-old.
I would never imagine my kid would be ill after seeing the amount of energy he had while playing with his brother. Two days before Ian was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, I noticed an increase on the number and size of the bruises. I started to worry and took him to see his pediatrician. Ian got blood work, and we went home. A few hours later, I got a call from his pediatrician. His pediatrician told me we needed to take Ian to the children’s hospital immediately because his blood work did not look good and they needed to run more test. His iron levels were extremely low.
On March 31, 2020 Ian was officially diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Ian was immediately admitted to the hospital and started his treatment within days. First, he had surgery to place the port on his chest. Our lives changed within hours. We went from being home with our healthy kids to being told Ian had cancer within hours. Our world crumbled, but we knew we needed to be strong and positive for both of ours kids.
Our life changed drastically. I went from being home with my boys to having to leave one of my kids at home while I cared for the other at the hospital. Ian and I spent almost a month away from family. With this pandemic going on we were not allowed visitors. When we finally came home it was great, but it was only the beginning of a long battle against cancer.
Where do you fit in?
I am asking for any donation that will help my family cover future expenses. Any contribution you are willing to make will go a long way. Ian will be having clinic appointments once a week for the following two months. Ian will be admitted to the hospital for chemotherapy for 4 days every two weeks for the next month. After we will going to clinic appointments once a week for chemotherapy the next two years.
