Prayers for Patty- Patty’s battle with Lung Cancer
Donation protected
As some of you may know Patty was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, stage III adenocarcinoma, the day after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2020. This fundraiser is to offer assistance to Patty and her husband Dennis as they navigate this difficult disease and the costs that come along with it.
Those who know Patty can attest to the fact that she is one of the kindest and most selfless people around, always putting others before herself. Now it’s time for her to receive some of that kindness and support she has so graciously given to others over the years.
To give you some background on Patty she is an (almost) 60-year-old devoted wife to a wonderful, supportive husband Dennis. Together they have 3 children, Steven Rachel and Emma, and 2 beautiful granddaughters Finley and Avery. Patty has worked at Yale New Haven Hospital as a microbiologist for 36 years. Through the current COVID pandemic, Patty has worked tirelessly, along with the rest of her coworkers testing the COVID swabs coming to the lab from both the hospital and the community. As you can imagine, work has been somewhat stressful for Patty and is what she attributed her ongoing cough and fatigue to.
After about two months of a persistent cough she finally went for a chest x-ray. On November 27 she was sent for a CT scan for further testing and was found to have what appeared to be NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer). From there she had more tests and procedures including MRIs, PET scans, a bronchoscopy with biopsies and bloodwork all done to confirm her diagnosis. During this time she met with her primary oncologist, radiation oncologist and thoracic surgeon to come up with a plan of attack.
As you can imagine receiving this kind of news isn’t easy but Patty is ready to fight and has nothing but a positive attitude and lots of support behind her! She now has a clear plan of action which includes 3-4 cycles of chemotherapy with the hope the tumor will shrink and she will be able to undergo surgery. Although it was originally thought surgery would not be an option, after a mediastinoscopy (the removal of her mediastinal lymph nodes) it was found that the nodes were negative for cancer and surgery is back on the table!
Patty began her treatment on December 29, 2020 with her first round of chemo. Due to treatment and the side effects that come along with it, Patty will be out of work for the foreseeable future which will take a toll on her and Dennis financially. Patty needs to rest and focus on her treatment to ensure the best possible chance of survival.
We are reaching out to Patty‘s friends and family during this difficult time in hopes to help ease the financial burden Patty and Dennis will face moving forward with both medical bills and every day expenses as Patty is out of work. By doing so hopefully they will have one less thing to worry about while Patty faces this brutal disease.
We know 2020 has been a difficult year for so many people so we truly thank you for considering any donation for her cause!
