Humane Animal Rescue has leased a shop in Footscray, and we are so excited to make it our home. But we need your help to open the doors!
Why Footscray?
Footscray has always been our home. It's where our charity is registered, and there is a clear community need: there are currently no animal welfare services in this region.
- Lead West reported that 15,025 people sought homelessness assistance in 2024-25, and the region's homelessness rate is 50% higher than the national average.
- Foodbank Australia reports that 24% of Australian households are food insecure, and 56% of those households have pets.
- 42% of food insecure households buy cheaper food for themselves so they can afford to feed their pets.
For many people, pets are family. No one should have to go without a meal to feed them.
What will the space be?
Our new space will be a volunteer hub where we collect, sort and distribute pet food and supplies to people in need. It will also be a home for fundraising, education and our outreach services, including:
- Free parasite control
- Pet education
- Free pet food and supplies
What we've already achieved
In the 2025/26 financial year, we have provided:
- 127,600 free pet meals through food banks
- 1,467 pets supported through our Paws and Support program with free pet food and supplies
- 3,413 parasite control treatments
- 33 families supported with free training and grooming

Imagine what we can do with a space of our own.
Please help us open our doors and support more people and pets. Every animal deserves a fair chance and kindness.
