Stella’s Road to Recovery

Doação protegida

I am a friend of Stella’s parents and I’m starting this fundraiser because they are two of the kindest people I know. For as long as  I’ve known Anna and Jesse, they have amazed me with their constant kindness and motivation to always help others. I am hoping that we can send some of that kindness back their way to help them through this difficult time. I know the timing is awful during this pandemic, but if you are able and willing to help,  we would be forever grateful to you.

I remember when Anna and Jesse first inquired about Stella through the rescue. They were both completely taken back to learn that other adopters wouldn’t even consider her because she had a tail. They immediately fell in love with her and made her a part of their family. They would do anything for this little girl, as you will see....

Here is Stella’s story from her mom:

Stella has been struggling with GI issues for a while. On August 8th she was admitted to the Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas. After x-rays, sonograms, ultrasounds and multiple rounds of bloodwork, we were left with a pancreatitis diagnosis, special GI food and to monitor if anything gets worse.

Stella went back to her normal playful self, full of life and energy. We were still struggling to get her to eat, but told it's normal after having such a bad flare up and were given an appetite stimulant to try and get her to eat.

On Wednesday morning, August 19th, she completely crashed and was in severe pain. Our primary vet took her in overnight for supportive care and ran more bloodwork. It was determined best to transport her to MedVet Dallas very early the next morning.

On Thursday, another ultrasound was run. Nothing was found, but the doctors determined exploratory surgery had to be done to get to the bottom of what was going on. That's when a squeaker from the inside of a toy or in medical terms "a foreign object" was found.

Unfortunately, septic fluid had already entered the abdomen making this procedure and recovery more dangerous. We were told only 50% of dogs make it through sepsis as it can be fatal.

But we knew our girl was only two years old, full of life and would want us to fight. So that's what we choose to do. We applied for CareCredit and have done everything in our power to help her fight.

While we do have Nationwide Pet Insurance Major Medical and Wellness plans, we do not know at this point how much will be covered. The major medical plan has a benefit schedule and certain procedures/protocols are capped at how much they can reimburse. We are looking at only 40% of her care being reimbursed at this time.

We've had to do multiple blood albumin and plasma transfusions to help Stella fight. We have spent $16,400 to date and are expecting to spend another$4-6k on top of this. All in all we are looking at about $22,400

Once pet insurance reimbursements are received, if there are extra funds left over from donations, it will be donated to Legacy Boxer Rescue where both Stella and her brother Louie were adopted from.
