"How To Meal Prep During A Famine" Short Film
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
My name is Lindsey Ruggles and I am a writer/director living in Los Angeles. I am here on GoFundMe because I am hoping to raise some money to cover production costs for my horror/thriller short film, "How To Meal Prep During A Famine."
The Story
"How To Meal Prep During A Famine" follows Kate, a young woman living in a near-future world, as she navigates a global famine. As the situation becomes increasingly dire, Kate must rely on others to survive.
Background
"How To Meal Prep During A Famine" was the first short film I wrote and actually preceded the COVID-19 pandemic by several months (eerie, I know). I've always been intrigued by psychology and how our brains work, especially when they are tested to their limits, and I knew that idea was something I wanted to play with in this short film .
Where Are We Now?
Fortunately this little screenplay has already been met with success when it was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Slamdance Screenplay Competition last fall.
Now, several months later, I have assembled a team of experienced creatives to help me bring this piece to life. At this point in the pre-production process, I am working most closely with our Director of Photography, Andrew Zeiter , whose most recent cinematographic achievements include Gold at the Clios and a Silver Lion at Cannes. It takes a village to make a film and I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful village surrounding me on this one.
We are now preparing to dive into production, with production dates set for April 10 & 11, and we will be shooting in New York City. However, with production comes costs. Most short film crews have to balance the dream version of the film that exists in their heads with what's realistic given the budget, and I hope that by meeting this fundraising goal, we will be able to make this project the best that it can be.
Where Will Donations Go?
Most of the donations will cover immediate production costs, including camera and lens rentals, sound and lighting equipment, production design, location rentals/permits/insurance, and making sure our cast and crew is paid and fed. Additional post-production costs will go towards editing and film festival submission fees. Rest assured, all donated funs will go directly back into the project itself. If we are lucky enough to exceed our goal, that will just open up the possibility of exploring creative options that are not currently available to us.
In addition, since we are so grateful to those who contribute to this project, we are offering rewards based on level of support:
Pledge $50 or more: An e-copy of the script
Pledge $100 or more: The above reward, plus a "Special Thanks" in the credits and a PDF of 3 of my favorite "How To Meal Prep During A Famine" recipes
Pledge $250 or more: All of the above rewards, plus behind-the-scenes photos and a paper copy of the script signed by the cast and crew
Pledge $500 or more: All of the above rewards, plus an early showing of the short film sent to you through your email
Pledge $1,000 or more: All of the above rewards, plus an e-copy of the "How To Meal Prep During A Famine" Cookbook
Pledge $1,500 or more: All of the above rewards, plus a printed copy of the "How To Meal Prep During A Famine" cookbook
Pledge $2,000 or more: All of the above rewards, plus an Associate Producer credit on the film
While the rewards cover higher levels of support, any amount that you can donate is so deeply appreciated. I am completely aware that these are difficult times for everyone, emotionally and financially, so I am incredibly grateful to those who have taken the time to visit this page and read more about why this project is so important to me.
Thank you,
Lindsey Ruggles
